How Light Stabilizers Protect Polymers from UV Degradation

When polymers are exposed to various environmental factors like UV light, heat, oxygen, light degradation would happen, causing issues, such as yellowing, cracking, loss of physical and mechanical properties. In order to enhance the durability and to extend the service life, it is necessary to add UV absorber and Hindered Amine light stabilizer (HALS) to prevent degradation caused by UV light, improving weather resistance in various applications. Light stabilizer (HALS) is to continuously remove the free radicals that are produced by photo-oxidation so the polymers can prolong the service life for long-term use. Plus, the combination of HALS and UV absorber offer synergistic effects to prevent against surface and functional defects.
